The Simple Woman's Daybook # 1

For Today...

Outside my Window...the sky is full of puffy clouds and the sun is shining - a beautiful start to a new day.

I am thinking...I'd really like to be outside taking photographs of nature.

I am thankful for...my family in general. Specifically today for my son's help over the weekend with some household tasks over the weekend and my daughter & son-in-law's willingness to come and join me to make more comfortable a situation out of my comfort zone.

From the kitchen...whatever Rocky's cooking! I am thinking of doing some baking this evening though.

I am wearing...my favorite jeans, a light blue shirt with some beading, silver and blue jewelry and black sandals.

I am reading...The Complete C.S. Lewis - the first book in the compilation is Mere Christianity. It is very thought provoking.

I am hoping...for everything from a buyer for some tires/wheels my husband is selling, to a vacation, to a job for my husband that he enjoys, to bright, healthy, happy futures for my grandbabies.

I am hearing...the weather on the radio followed by country music.

I am creating...a plan (be afraid, be very afraid).

Around the house...the dog is pouting because she can't leave and go with me (she loves to ride in the truck), the curling iron is turned off, the cell phone is turned on and , undoubtedly, the weeds in the garden are growing.

One of my favorite things...is chocolate - enough said.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...I hope to get the onions pulled and started drying and to get some more of the garden weeded. I also hope to get some more reading done and to help with finishing the remodeling we are doing in our basement. On Wednesday I plan to meet with some girlfriends to pray for our husbands and various other things and then go to Panera for dinner-yeah! On Thursday I will be at my least favorite place, the hospital, while hubby has some surgery.

Horrible Movie

Thursday Thirteen - Do Not Be Afraid

I have been struggling lately with fear. Not any particular fear, just an overactive sense of anxiety and trepidation. Fear is addressed numerous times in the Bible from the beginning to the end. Therefore, today's TT are 13 verses to remind me that I have no need to fear.


Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today.

Deuteronomy 3:22 Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you."

Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Ruth 3:11 And now, my daughter, don't be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character.

Pet Peeve Tuesday #1 - Clothes Styles

Fall is approaching and instead of being excited to see what the new clothing styles and colors are, I dread it. This particular post is not really about about the skimpy, trashy styles that are being put on younger and younger girls, although that is related (and obviously I could do a whole post on that topic).

This is about trying to buy clothes that you look nice in and want to wear. If you are over 30 and under 70 the selection is pretty limited. There are a few select stores (cheers for New York & Co.) that actually have a good selection to choose from and where you might even find something that fits!

Otherwise, you are stuck trying to create something wearable out of nice looking, fashionable clothes that would look great on your mother and the tween, teen, college styles that often don't even look good on 16 year old, let alone an actual adult woman.

Don't even try to find a dress unless you want to spend a small fortune (think Coldwater Creek). This gets even worse if you are either taller or shorter than "normal".

Seriously, is it too much to ask for a pair of jeans that hits somewhere between 5" below your navel (good luck finding underwear that won't show in the back) and 3" above your navel (maybe even without elastic anywhere on the waistband). I know it's not just me. I drove by the sign of a local petite shop recently that read "Not Your Daughter's Jeans".

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure a large chunk of the population falls in this "no womans land" of fashion.
