Sermon in a Sentence
When I demand that people think just like me, criticize their beliefs, and condemn their behavior without understanding them, I'm making a dangerous shift from righteousness to self-righteousness.- Joan Ball
How very true this is. When did we lose touch with ‘civil discourse’ and a calm exchange of ideas in our diverse nation? As I listened to Colin Powell this morning on Meet the Press, I was struck by the articulate manner in which he shared his ‘process’ for reaching a decision about which candidate would get his vote and why. We could all take a lesson from such thought-filled consideration … and remind ourselves that a difference of opinion actually enriches us all … if we don’t respond with fear. Hugs and blessings,
