There's nothing inherently wrong with shark fishing (in fact, shark is pretty good eating!) but the proprietors of the pier probably don't want the liability of having them hauled up among their patrons.
This might have proven problematic last summer. I'm told that there were a handful of sharks that hung around the pier all summer long. But by the time I got there in late-October, they'd apparently moved on to warmer waters.
