Sermon in a Sentence (or a few)

"God helps those who help themselves" is no where in the Bible. The Bible actually teaches the opposite. Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39

If I remember correctly 'God helps those who help themselves' actually comes from Poor Richard's Almanac (Benjamin Franklin).

You make an excellent point ... and methinks George is correct about the source of this quote.
Hugs and blessings,

I think it is right there beside the saying that "The end justifies the means." :)
I am amazed what some people think is in the Bible.

Debbie,
I couldn't find a way to answer your question by email so here goes... My post "You've Got To Be Carefully Taught" is a song in the movie South Pacific. When I use other people's material I post it in bold and/o quotes, instead of listing the source. I find that people accept and reject Truth based on how impressed they are with the messenger. The Truth should stand on its own since all Truth comes from God.
