Thursday Thirteen - What To Do...

Sooooo....

There was a "reduction in force" at work today and I am now among the statistics of the unemployed! Here is my list of 13 things to do when you unexpectedly lose your job.

  1. Do a Thursday Thirteen post about it.
  2. Try to figure out what to do with all the junk important things that have been accumulating in your desk drawers over the last 6+ years when you get home with them.
  3. Try to do as many fun things as you can while pretending like it is a snow day rather than a permanent, scary situation.
  4. Try to ignore that urge to throw up.
  5. Plot how you're going to take over the company someday with the funds from your penny stocks once the market goes back sky high. (Ha!)
  6. Try to remember everyone that you should let know about the situation so they aren't shocked when they call/come by where you used to work.
  7. Check out the themes for Photo Hunters for the next several weeks since you'll have plenty of time to find creating things to photograph for them.
  8. Try to find out where the unemployment office is since you've never been there before.
  9. Contact your son, the accountant, about what to do about your 401K.
  10. Pray congress does something very, very, very soon about health care since you will have no insurance in two weeks.
  11. Start figuring out a plan of attack for cleaning closets, drawers, and all those other things you've been meaning to do for months but didn't have time. Then straighten your bookcase and put all those unread in "read next" order.
  12. Be grateful for how supportive and encouraging your husband, family, and friends have already been - that's something that can't be taken away.
  13. Assure your blog readers that you are okay, that this hasn't really sunk in yet, but that God is good and has always had something better for you "in the wings" when a curtain closed. Remind them, and yourself, that He knew this was coming even though you didn't.

Oh dear... Well, you certainly are taking it as well as can be expected... and you're in my thoughts that things (employment wise) improve shortly... and now I worry for you and your health. I've heard (read... and heard thanks to friends and family in the States...) of literally hundreds of people running out of insurance for health... and considering my bad ticker and my wife's medical treatments right now (the biggest happened today,) I wonder how we would fare in such a situation.

I would only hope we'd show as much pluck and faith as you seem!

Like I said, you're in my thoughts...

Debbie - I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. We had a major income shift in December and our family had to make some major adjustments. If you want to know what I did to get us upright again, shoot me an e-mail. I tried blogging it, but decided not to. We took an unexpected, but blessed turn that has had a major impact.

Good luck!

I am so excited for you Debbie. God must have something really special planned for you. I know it isn't obvious at the moment but I am telling you to keep your eyes and ears open. He has a big plan for you.

I'm glad you were able to do a fun post on a scary topic. I came here via Linda's blog. Please know I have just prayed for God's provision and His plan for your future to be made known to you soon. And I'll continue to keep you in my prayers.

I am sorry you lost your job. Your TT list is very dramatic and funny at the same time which shows me your sense of humor will get you through this. Happy TT.

I know we're to walk by faith and not by sight, but it sure does feel scary to do so. You're in my prayers.

I'm so glad Linda introduced me to you today. I am honored to have the opportunity to pray for you if you don't mind. I already know it's okay with you! I'm glad you brought up the point that He isn't surprised by this. I love how you chose to post about it.
Much love from Michigan,
